Löwen-Apotheke pharmacy (Am Markt 17/18)
A pharmacy since 1578, the building's unique features include recessed seats in the entrance doorway, putti (figures of children) and a golden lion sculpture holding a mortar. A plaque on the wall honours Theophilus Jacobäer (1591–1659), a pharmacist who saved Pirna from total destruction by Swedish troops in an heroic effort in 1639 (during the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War). In a play entitled "The Saviour", this historic episode is commemorated every year at the annual city festival. In the yard of the pharmacy you'll find a pathway with Gothic pointed arches and a two-storey wooden gallery.
