Stadtkirche St. Marien/Church of St Mary (Kirchplatz 13)

St. Marienkirche (Church of St Mary), a Late Gothic "Hall Church", is one of Pirna's most striking buildings. The spire, 60 metres in hight, and its floor space of 35 x 60 metres make this church the third largest in Saxony.

Inside the majestic halls, you'll notice the delicate net-vault ceiling with its original historic ceiling painting (1544–46). Other stunning features include an ornate sandstone altar from 1611, standing almost ten metres high, and a babtismal font from 1561.

In 1994, the seven bell chime was re-installed in the bell tower – the only other seven bell chime can be found at Dresden's Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), installed there in 2003.

Since the time of the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, the Lutheran community has come here to reflect and contemplate. The church is also often used as a concert hall for classical concerts.
